We love Tom Daley's striped mohair jumper knitting project

We've loved watching Tom Daley compete in the Olympics this summer – and keeping up with his knitting and crochet, too! And we're so impressed with the latest project he shared: a striped mohair knitted jumper.

Tom took to his Instagram to share his latest creation: a hand-knitted cropped jumper, knitted in yellow, pink and fuchsia mohair yarn.

He shared a video of himself wearing his project and talking through how he made it. He explained: "This was inspired by a piece of candy known as the Fruit Salad. People from my generation will know what it is.

"I made it out of a very thin mohair, but I used a slightly chunkier needle, so I used an 8mm needle to create this."

The jumper is complete with a V-neckline and ribbing across the hem. It is stitched in stripes of yellow, pink and fuchsia.

Fans were quick to share how much they loved Tom's latest creation, with @preston_tooie commenting "I love it. I think you've inspired me to take up knitting" and @robotmeile commenting "Love knitting with mohair on the big needles! This is great!".

Tom's latest project comes after he shared the news that he has retired from professional diving after competing in the Paris Olympics this summer. He shared photos of himself throughout his diving career on his Instagram alongside the caption "Thank you, diving. Over and out".

In an interview with Vogue, in which he revealed he would be retiring, Tom shared that he wants to add sewing to his craft repertoire and has enrolled in a course at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles.

He said: "I knit and I crochet, but sewing will just add a whole different level of knowledge as to how to construct things.

"I’ve actually designed a couple of pieces of underwear that I’m going to be launching, and then I’m also hoping to launch a swimwear project next year."

Now that Tom has more time on his hands for knitting and crochet, we can't wait to see what he makes next!
